When we are in the middle of a large human experience we have 2 choices, get lost inside our accumulating narrative or to dive down into the depths of it to understand its landscape.
In the realm of human grief, many times we think that our current experience will never end and that it is all that is happening for us.
This is just not scientific is it. Whilst we are thinking about our loss our heart is beating, our finger nails are growing, our bladder is concentrating waste products, our skin is growing and shedding cells. So we are not exclusively and all encompassed by our grief. Our mind tries to trick us into thinking that is all that is happening inside our body.
Well the mind is a big and powerful force it can lead us into cul-de-sacs, or it can lead us to new horizons. Now that sounds a little Pollyanna like doesn't it. But the truth is we can stay captive to our minds collapsing of traumatic or even mildly distressing events or we can mindfully be one with all the experiences that might travel towards us or inside us.
All through our lives there are points where we connect with the lessons or we avoid the lessons. The truth is that whether we connect or avoid, they still keep happening. However when we develop resilience we can spring back more fully. We are not really like a piece of elastic - we are actually infinitely resilient.

Benevolence
Today will meditate on Benevolence.
Go into your heart centre, the placebetween your breasts at the point of the sternum and 4th rib. This centre is the place where you interpret the world. It is the ssite of Benevolence. Breath in very deeply into this centre several times. Allow the breath to expand into your chest. In an out is comes, expanding and contracting, expanding and contracting. Experience all aspects of your breath in your chest. Allow yourself to feel every single aspect of your breath as it comes and goes, as it moves in and out of your chest, as your diaphragm drops and rises. As your ribs expand and contract. Every single particle of breath as it comes and goes.
Now drop that observation. I want you to concentrate on the heart centre again, all it to begin pulsating, allow it to throb. You will beging to experience a heigthened awareness as you tune into the natural pulse of your body. Continue to observe yourelf at this point. The expansion and contraction, the throbbing and the pulsation.
Have you ever contemplated what it means to be alive. Have you ever experienced your body in this way before. Is there more for you to understand about your body?
For the moment dwell withing this centre of the pulsation. You re neither the beat nor the non-beat. You are in the centre observing tall that is. You are your hert centre.
You might now start to sense that this centre is spinning. That there is a direction to this psin. Allow yourself to experince this spin or rotation. Just go ritht into the centre of it. Allow youreelf to be inside the centre of the spin or roatation. Be with it in all its aspects. You might see a colour assocaitated with this centre or this rotation. Allow that to formin its own way. Allow it to gfrow and expand into all apsects of your being. Rest inside the centre of this.
Now, bring tomind one person who you love without question, without reservation, without any expectation of anything in return. Allow that feeling to expand inside of you. This love is available to us all. If you struggel with this then imagine someone who you could experience this with. Undoncitional love and heart centred connection. Allow thet person, that being, that entitiy to expand inside of you. Allow the feelings and total magnitude of unconditional lvoe and benevolence to expand into your body, out of your body, into the unviers.
Allow the univers to be filled with benevolence and unconditional love. This love is not depenedent on someone else reciprocating, on this love coming back to you in any form.

Courage
This is another short meditation.
Close you eyes - allow your centre to arise, the place where you know who you are. The place where all that you are, all that you could possibly be is located in your physical body. If you struggle to find that place, start to scan your body. Start at the top of your head. Scan from the very top of your scalp, allow the energy or awareness to travel over the surface of your body. Down over your forehead, taking in both eyes and eye sockets, the bridge of your nose, then over both cheeks, right around to the side of your head. Now over whole of your nose and both nares. The top lip, the tongue, the lower lip, the chin, both ears. Allow your awareness to descend slowly, luxuriously, over the surface of YOUR skin.
Now take your attention to the back of your head, the scalp and hair follicles, down the entire surface of the back of your head, now take in the throat, and the back of the neck, both shoulders, front and back, the upper arms, the elbows, the forearms the wrists, the palms right to the tips of your fingers. See if you can allow the front and the back of the arms and hands to arise simultaneously. You are directing your attention to the surface of your skin. Allow your awareness to build gently and fully. You are sitting there fully aware of the entire surface of your body that we have scanned thus far.
Now take your attention to the front of your body, right around to the mid central area of each flank or side. You are scanning the surface of your skin on you upper chest, your middle chest, your lower chest, down to your diaphragm, allow your attention linger over the surface BUT continue to move on as soon as awareness has arisen. Continue to scan down your body into your belly, your lower abdomen, down to the top of your pelvis through to your perineum.
Now take your attention to the back. You are systematically scanning the whole of your back - from the top of the shoulders descend in a steady and logical sequence. Upper back, middle of your back - right around to meet the centre of both flanks or sides. Down to the lower back, to the back of the pelvis, through to the perineum. Allow all aspects of the skin and the sensations available to you to be fully present. Do not make up stories about anything - you are just observing, no commentary, no thoughts are to intrude - if they do, allow them to just drift by - do not get engaged in them.
Now take your attention to both your legs, the front of both thighs. Your attention descends to your knees, to your lower leg, ankles and feet. Now take your attention to the back of your thighs, back of knees, calves , ankles and bottom of the feet right through to the tips of your toes.
Now allow your attention to sweep upwards, taking in all that you have attended to in your descent - sweep rapidly through back of your legs, the front of your legs, the back of your body, the front of your body, your fingers, palms, lower arms, upper arms, shoulders, neck and throat, back of head, chin, ears, lower lip sweeping rapidly right up to the top of your head.
Now that you have finished your sweep take your attention to the centre of your chest, about mid way between your nipples. This is your heart centre. the area where all thoughts, all feelings and all experiences are filtered. This is the centre of your being for this exercise.
Allow to arise in you heart centre any experience in you life where you experienced the love of another being - another sentient being - if you cannot bring to mind the love of other human beings than allow the love of any animals that you have experienced in your life to arise - all the sensations that you have experienced in the past of love and compassion to be present right here and now. Allow those sensations to be present right here and now.
Allow this sense to fill you up until it can no longer be contained - allow it to spill out into your etheric body - that electro vibratory part of your being. You love, you have been loved - allow that vibration to be present right now. Allow it to fill up the whole of your universe.
Now take your attention to a time when you believe you lacked courage - allow the situation, the circumstances to arise in your mind's eye. Allow all the narrative, all the story, all the visuals be present right now. Just let it be present in your life right now. In the centre of your heart. Allow, allow allow. All is right, all is perfect. Allow that to be fully here, fully now. Any judgements that you made of your self at that time arise now. When it is fully present, drop it.
Take your attention back to the time when you were loved. You might experience a full and warm sensation around your physical heart. You might experience a colour associated with that experience - it might be a light gold colour, or a gentle pink, or a soft, pale green, What ever arises for you is completely valid. No perfect way to do this. Allow the sensations, the colour to fill up your body, spill out to your electro vibratory body - the etheric field. Even if you have never heard this before allow the movement of ions, of qi or energy out to the envelope that surrounds your body - out about 2 cms from the surface of your skin - allow it to extend out about 10 cms now - out beyond that out to the very extent of your etheric field. It is here in this electrical shroud, this electrical envelope that healing takes place. Allow the charge to move out to the very edges of your envelope.
Now take your attention to the situation that you previously identified. Does it have the same intensity now as it did when you started the exercise? If it does then continue to switch backwards and forwards between these 2 experiences. If it has lessened in intensity allow the practise to drop away.
Take your attention back to your physical heart and the area around it. Allow the warmth and grace and beauty that is naturally you extend out through the whole of your body. You are a fine, magnificent vibratory body. Let your electrical circuit be restored to its original settings. Allow healing to take place, and allow it to take place now.
Know that you are loved - as you read this blog - even if you do not know me, know that as I write this at my keyboard that any one who plugs into this experience is loved, valued and is part of the greater body of consciousness of human kind.
Go about your daily life being kind, considerate and loving of others.

Heart Centre
This is a small meditation.
Take your attention to your breath. Just observe it as it enters your nostrils. Just coming and going, easily and effortlessly. You do not have to control anything. It just comes and goes naturally. Continue to observe the breath at your nostrils for several minutes. If any thoughts arise just allow them to become like clouds just drifting through. Consciously bring your attention back to your breath. You might be able to feel some sensations at the entry to your nostrils as the air moves backwards and forwards over the skin. You might notice that it has a temperature. You might notice that it arrives at both nostrils or that one nare is more open than the other. Just continue to observe your breath. It comes and goes naturally, rhythmically without any effort on your part.
Mow let that observation drop away. I want you to bring your attention to your heart centre. The space about nipple line in the middle of your chest. Take your full attention to this place. Allow your chest to rise and fall. The breath comes and goes and as it does, more and more energy builds in this energetic centre. The heart centre. Allow the charge to come more fully into your chest. Bigger and bigger, fuller and fuller. You might also allow a colour to fill in the space. Allow that colour to increase in intensity. Which ever colour arises is completely valid for you. Just observe and focus the energy in this centre.
As is become so full, so big, so overwhelming allow it to spill out , allow it to run down your arms, over the entire surface of your heart, your chest, it is like a river in flood. The volume and pressure is so great that it spill upwards, downwards and to both sides - it fills the entire body. Each breath that you take in, the cascade is greater, stronger and more beautiful. The colour is suffusing everything. The more you inspire and expire, the strong the charge in your system. It is now spilling out into the space beyond your body. The space called the etheric field is fulling with charge, with energy, with colour and vibrational intensity.
You are feeling so good, so energised that you are unable to contain this in your own organism and you allow it to flow out towards other people you love. Your children, your partner, your parents, your siblings your aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents. It extends to your entire extended family, your neighbours, your animals, all sentient beings around your home, in your community, in your village or town, out into your country or state, your region, the entire globe, beyond, out into outer space, this energy this charge this vibrational state is touching every particle of energy everywhere through out the cosmos. You are able to inject the global consciousness, the eternal flame of heart in all directions and in all realms of time. It is huge, and eternal of itself. You are part of it and it is part of you.

FORgiveness
Today I have been inspired to talk about FORgiveness. If you break the word down like this you see that it is a process of giving.
There are many occasions when we should be asking for forgiveness from others. Whether of our actions. our words or our lack of action or words in certain situations. If we use the same standard that we expect of others then we can get an insight into how other people's actions might also be motivated by things that apply to us.
What do I mean by that.
Are we always attentive to the things that come out of our mouths? Do we, as my mother in law used to say, turn our tongue 10 times in our mouth before we speak? If we develop a deeper level of mindfulness then the things that come from our mouth will indeed be more mindful or better considered. We will have the time to reflect on what we say to others in the moment. We can also catch our self speak as it careens towards a familiar deep rut of our imperfections. It is wonderful to have high ideals but if we do not have a daily practice that develops insight then we will always be deficient in what we achieve and struggling with thoughts and practices that point our and develop our imperfections.
What is being said here is that - with daily practice of mindfulness we are able to develop insight. With insight it is possible to forgive others and to forgive ourself.
If not, we are trapped in a cycle of shame, blame and imperfection.
The route out of shame, self and other blame and ultimately towards a deeper inner and outer wisdom is daily practices that develop wisdom and balance.
Love to all you lovely and loving souls who aspire to develop the self.

INtuition
I have just come back from doing an annual follow up for a client. We were talking about the many times she has had an inner voice telling her to follow a particular path or not to follow a particular path and the consequences of stilling the small inner voice.
All of us have access to inner guidance, or angelic guidance or spirit guides or an any other 'guide' that is in the current spiritual vocabulary.
Most of us lead such busy lives that we are totally deaf or blind to our guidance. We choose similar courses of actions, many times in similar circumstances.
Neuro-physically this is completely understandable. What you practice you strengthen. Just like exercising a muscle or more accurately a group of muscles, any thought pattern that we frequently exercise will get chemically encoded or hard-wired into our system. This means that whether we want to or not we will react in EXACTLY the same way when these reactive pathways are stimulated. The stimuli do not have to be identical to the original stimuli - they just need to be similar. This releases a neuro-chemical pathway and voilĂ you have the same reactive pattern, the same chemicals being produced in your system targeting the same cells. Put simply, what wires together fires together and likewise what fires together wires together. This means that reactive states are habitual.
The only way to bring greater awareness to our actions is to break the pattern when the stimulus is not present - this involves developing a greater sensitivity to when your body is being cued. If you do not have a mindfulness based daily (better if it is twice daily) stillness practice then you will never develop enough energy to break the gravitational field of your habit. The habit can have a physical basis such as smoking, drinking, using drugs, picking your nose, rubbing your hands when you are nervous, to thinking particular thoughts such as "whenever people look at me that way I feel worthless".
The key to most physical, psychological and spiritual problems or challenges is lack of mindfulness.
Address the mindfulness and you will release the pattern.
Release the pattern and you are 'available' to your inner guidance.

letting go
So many times during the day, during our every day life we attach to objects, people, words said or unsaid. How do we let go of these feelings of attachment. How do we free ourselves so our energy is liberated so that we are a more fully present individual in our own lives?
One way is to develop a meditation practice that teaches us detachment or more correctly non-attachment. As we develop the muscles of our psychological resilience (the only way we can do this is by having challenges), we teach our selves to react less and less. The only way to get to this point is to practice every day letting go. It is too difficult to learn new practices when we are intensely involved in circumstances that trigger reactions. That is why some form of mindfulness based mediation is very useful to develop the muscle of resilience.
When we practice in non stimulating environments we can develop a thing that the Buddhists call equanimity. It is much easier to develop this when we make a commitment to practice every day.

responsibility for our actions
Today is a good day to talk about personal responsibility.
How we choose to accept responsibility for all our actions at all times.
Do we at times seek to blame someone else for our thoughts or actions. Do we say stuff like - you make me so angry when you eat like that. Or I just hate it when you pick your teeth with your pocket knife!
When we accept responsibility for all feelings, sensations and thoughts that arise in our own minds and bodies the closer we can come to being really grown up.
Wouldn't that feel just so nice? To feel grown up, to not always be searching for ways to 'know' that this course of action or that course of action is the right course of action now. So often we are caught up in our thoughts about what mature, wise and sensible people do that we cannot develop our own authentic sense of self. This is so linked to becoming responsible for all thoughts actions and word. So often we are so busy that we do not think or spend time reviewing our day, giving thanks for all the things that have arisen whether they are easy or tough.
Monday and Tuesday I had one of those 'flows' that felt so fabulous, but then I found myself being cranky with people around me. I snapped at my daughter several times - just spoke too severely to her when she expressed a vigorous opinion about something. So I had got caught up with the pleasure of the 2 previous days and lost my equanimity so that the 'other' less savoury or satisfactory feelings poked their heads up to be experienced too.
It is time for me to get back into my mindfulness mediation because it is when we practice daily in the safe and secure environment of our own homes that we can train ourselves in equanimity so when difficulties arise we are able to adapt and become more aware early that we are cranky or being difficult ourselves.
I trust that you all are developing your own hearts and own happiness.

the centre of the universe
As I sit at my computer today I am drawn to reflect on the nature of my fingers. They are commanded by my brain to do the things I want. I have learned to touch type so I can close my eyes and type and let the stream of consciousness just flow.
Often we think that we must watch everything so that we can 'get it right'. What would it feel like if you could turn off that hyper vigilance for a little moment?
When we slow our attention to reflect on the one still point in our consciousness we give time for the soul to emerge.
When the soul emerges we have time to catch a glimpse of our life's purpose.
Our life's purpose is our soul being expressed through our every action.
Usually we make ourselves so busy each day that we do not spend even one moment with our eyes closed when we are awake - we need to keep an eye on everything.
Now take that moment. Close your eyes, breath in through your nostrils, feel the air moving across the skin below your nostrils and a little inside the nose.
Feel the temperature of the air as it moves backwards and forwards across your skin.
Now feel the particles of air, just imagine it, if you are unable to feel it, just allow your breath to move backwards and forwards across the surface of your skin.
Now take yourself deep into your skin, see if you can feel any sensations under your skin.
Allow these thoughts to arise - "I am allowing the centre of the universe to arise in this moment.
I am not commanding or directing anything, the centre of the universe is arising and is fully present in my skin, in my breath".
Just allow it to arise and retreat as is its nature.
Now - thank the universe for this moment of reflection - go now to your daily tasks and remember to close your eyes every hour and allow the centre of the universe to arise under your skin, in your skin, in your breath, in your consciousness.
